2 AUGUST 2027 / A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN NORTHERN MOROCCOResearch-led. Locally focused.
The field guide

Will Morocco Be on GMT or GMT+1 for the 2027 Eclipse?

Morocco returned to GMT (UTC+0) on 20 September 2026. Spain, including Ceuta and Melilla, uses CEST (UTC+2) in August 2027. Always include the time zone in travel instructions and reconfirm it before departure.

One eclipse, different clocks

The astronomical instant does not change when a country changes its clocks. Tangier totality begins around 08:44 GMT in the research dataset. A document showing 09:44 may have used the earlier UTC+1 assumption. Check the offset before comparing times.

The current rule

Moroccan decree 2.26.530 ended the previous UTC+1 rule on 20 September 2026. Current time-zone references show GMT throughout 2027. The two Spanish enclaves follow Spanish summer time, two hours ahead.

A better meeting instruction

Write the date, place, local clock time and UTC offset together. Arrange to be on the same side of the border as your viewing site the night before. Do not depend on an eclipse-morning ferry or border crossing.
