The field guide

Morocco or Egypt for the 2027 Solar Eclipse?

Egypt offers the longest totality near Luxor, while Morocco offers nearly five minutes in the north with a different climate, geography and travel experience. The right destination is not decided by duration alone.

The duration difference

The eclipse centerline reaches its longest duration farther east, and Egypt is the headline destination for travelers prioritizing the maximum possible totality. Northern Morocco still provides an unusually long total phase, including a published 4 minutes 51 seconds in Tangier.

Four to five minutes is enough for a substantial totality experience when the sky is clear and the observing plan is calm.

Climate and mobility

Egypt's desert climate can offer strong clear-sky prospects but extreme August heat and concentrated demand. Morocco's north is milder, yet marine stratus is a real concern along parts of the coast.

Morocco's advantage is a broad west-to-east road corridor with coastal, mountain and inland options. That flexibility must be organized before eclipse morning.

Choose the journey you want

Choose Egypt if maximum duration is the overriding goal and its heat and logistics suit you. Choose Morocco if you want a northern Morocco journey, a high morning Sun and a tour designed around movement between weather regimes.
